HW Universe Timeline Project - need your help (will be updated constantly)
In essence, as with all fictional universes, there is always a central 'timeline' to tie all elements together. Most notable ones are those from Star Wars & Star Trek. I am looking to do this for HW, and once it has enough substance to archive it in the HomeworldArchives.com website (and anyone else wishing to replicate it on their own HW sites are welcome).
An impressive example is a Star Wars timeline at: http://www.timelineuniverse.net/TheSithEra.htm This first post will be updated, as we go along, with information gleamed from subsequent posts. There will be arguments, talk, disagreements but most importantly discussion. To kick it off, anyone with information do post it here (helps if you can clean or confirm it a bit instead of speculating), and here are some thoughts off the top of my head. 1. Year measurements There are Imperial years (date used by the old Empire), Higaraan years (date set to zero when the HW1 mothership made landfall) and maybe others. Take this into account and provide alternates when giving dates (e.g. in the Imperial year 30120 (Higaraan year 20). There may well be other years to take into account (e.g. Kharak years?). Do correct us if the convention used is wrong. 2. Important Events We have the backstory, HW1 fluff, HWC fluff & HW2 (what little can be gleamed from the manual) Contrary to what people might think, I also DO want to include events happening in HW: Cataclysm as the manual has a lot of fluff and interesting points to behold. 3. Unconfirmed Events or Years You can mention things like the Dust Wars and others especially if you can find dates attached to them. If speculating or unsure about dates, perhaps we can give a range (e.g. Imperial year approx. 100-200) Remember, this is a dynamic post, but hopefully by the end of it we will have a nice (graphical?) timeline everyone can look at for future reference. Here is the timeline (that will be changed constantly). Hopefully it will grow: KHK - Kharakian year GSY - Galactic Standard year TEY - Taidan Empire year (or Imperial years) AHL/AL - After Higaraan Landfall year BHL/BL - Before Landfall PRG - Progenitor year ===================== THE HW TIMELINE ????? (HWCM-pg9) 0520 KHK - Siiddim & Gaalsien clans, the two largest clans on Kharak go to war over what caused the 'gods' to place their peoples on the planet. (HW1MTH-pg2) 0675 KHK - All 33 Somataaw temples closed to outsiders except for Oracle of Tala and the Dome of Heaven. She orders digging in the Red Valley finding the deposit of the richest iron ore ever seen on Kharak. (HWCM-pg10) 0520 to 0800 (approx) KHK - Successive series of large and small wars, creating clan feuds (HW1MTH-pg2) 0810 KHK - Tiir based small clan called Naabel uses chemical explosives for 1st time in clan wars (HW1MTH-pg2) 083x KHK - Tiir becomes new capital of Kharak, Time of Reason begins (HW1MTH-pg2) 0835 KHK - Somtaaw's upper temples (Oracle of Tala and Dome of Heaven?) are closed to outsiders (HWCM-pg9,pg10) 1106 KHK - Discovery of Khar Thoba by misaligned radar satellite (HW1MTH-pg3). Thks guys, please note from now on to put some letters next to the years so we know what years we are talking about.
(btw you can edit your posts Daton by clicking on the 'edit' button instead of posting again to add new info) How about: KHK - Kharakian year GSY - Galactic Standard year TEY - Taidan Empire year (or Imperial years) AHL/AL - After Higaraan Landfall year BHL/BL - Before Landfall PRG - Progenitor year For consistency in the AHL/AL/BHL/BL I will be using ONLY AHL and placing a minus (-) if it is before landfall. This is to minimise confusion but should you see BL/AL in literature you will know what they mean. Format would be [YEAR] [PERIOD] Examples: 1023 KHK 10,000 PRG etc. [EDIT] One more thing to take note is Significant Events and not so significant events. What do I mean? Well the potential wealth of info in this timeline can be quite huge, so please don't discard any info you may find just because you think it is small. A small (and fake) example is as follows: 1023 KHK - Ship found in desert 1024 KHK - Clans make peace to study ship . . . . . . . . . . . . . .- Karaan Sjet is born . . . . . . . . . . . . . .- The Kiith council is formed 1028 KHK - The first orbital shipyard construction begins As you can see though the birth of Karaan is not that important, it is still fluff that can add to the timeline and doesn't obscur if we add tabbing. :sniper: Okay we'll zero in and split hairs later, for now just dump your info and findings first thanks. Just to let you know I have been compiling my own timeline and have come to a couple of conclusions:
The Guidestone was constructed in approx -1845 KHK The Progenitor Foundry Broke apart in -8765 KHK or -470 GSY!!! The Kharakian calender stared 1784 years after landing on Kharak!!! The largest Plot Hole is the difference between the HW2 in game movies and the backstory. In HW2 the 2nd core was first discovered on a desert planet. In the backstory the 2nd core was found in a crystaline structure as part of a huge ship within the Great Wastelands. This after some unknown time led to the assault on the Taiidan homeworld and the collapse of Higara and the Exiles trip to Kharak with the 2nd Core. Clearly a considerable time frame difference here...well done Relic :notadd: I am going to make a stab that possibly the GSY started when the Bentusi found the first core and created the trade routes. My data is in an excel spreadsheet to track similtaneous dates for each event easily. If you want a copy PM me. ------------ edit I have been looking at the HW2 backstory as contained in the 4 files from Relic and it says: <Quote: 3000 years passed, and the exiles drifted to the end of the galaxy. On a desert planet some 2000 years after the exile, a signal is detected in the sand. The discovery of the hyperspace core and the guide stone set the Homecoming in motion.> If you take the date of 1112 KHK (9408 GSY) for finding the Khar-Toba, less 2000 for time on palnet = planet fall of -894 KHK (8096 GSY) with a total exile of 3000 years making the start of exile -1784 KHK (7206 GSY) with about 890 years drifting through space to get to Kharak Last edited by Starlight : 15th Jan 06 at 4:36 PM. |

Actually this one isn't so much an error, but that it was put very badly. The old Hiigaran's found the 2nd core inside the huge ship, used it against the Taiidan and then "lost it" when they got to Kharak. It was (re)discovered later for the events of HW1. sm |

RPG eh? I actually have some old documents around when I was working on a d20 adaptation of the Homeworld universe? Mind if I exchange notes as well?
Also, troff, thumbs up for this as I think I'll probably use it for dates in the Encylopedia Hiigara. |

Apologies for the bump, but I just noticed this after Troff linked to it it in another thread, and I noticed an issue. On page 5 of the Homeworld manual, the little note on the side mentions the Global Plebiscite of 1155 (KHK, to use Troff's terminology), but in the main text says that there has been no "significant conflicts or bloodshed" for 250 years.
Assuming that the significant conflicts ceased immediately after the Global Plebiscite, 1155 + 250 = 1405. As for the dates conflicting (due to the mention of eight decades of work by those 10,000 people and 25,000 robots), I would put those eight decades after the 25 years it took for the Mothership to "slowly [take] form" (page 6/7). If we backdate from 1405, we would get something like: 1270: Creation of infrastructure begins 1290: Scaffold construction begins 1300: Scaffold completed; Mothership spaceframe construction begins 1325: Mothership spaceframe completed (the ship has thus "taken form"); final assembly phase begins 1405: Mothership launch Now, the problem here is that it leaves us with an unexplained 100+ year gap between the finalization of the Mothership plan in 1159 and the beginning of infrastructure creation.  OTOH, if we take those 250 years back from the 1215 for Mothership launch, we end up in 965, well before Khar-Toba was found, and the 250 years seems to be implied to be as a result either of the Guidestone being found or of the Global Plebiscite; my vote would be for the latter, as I would think the actual finding of the thing would spark some conflict (although maybe that just wasn't considered "significant"  ).(Edit: it also bears mentioning that the HW manual begins like this: "The debate over our past on this world reaches back through the entire documented history of civilization, a period covering over 1300 years." Obviously more of a middle ground is needed between the dates of 1215 and 1405 for MS launch...  )(Edit 2: Wow, when you get in and start reading the HW manual with an eye for dates, there's inconsistencies all over the place. As an example, the Kiith Gaalsien writeup mentions the Time of Reason being at its peak in 710 rather than 810 as suggested on page 1; not to mention the "Naabel/Naabal" thing. )Last edited by Captain Pierce : 28th Apr 07 at 8:13 PM. |
