Screenie found inside Engine.sga of the old armypainter wich had interesting stuff.
Ok, after searching trough the engine.sga file to learn about some stuff.
I found a couple of files named template, after opening them in photoshop I had seen that they were screenshots of old stuff. The feature I am highly intersted in is: that you could name your commander ![]() There is also an pattern selector but I am not sure about what it does maybe for different chapters like the Omega Marines? anyway the screenshot: ![]() |

i remember people mentioning to me (before the game came out) that you could name and equip your own commander with whatever you wanted weaponwise, which looks like this idea for the painter
i like it... the background kicks ass..lol.. i wonder if there is a way to make this work in game atm... ie. when your cursor moves over a enemy commander, you could see what theyre called. recon its fiesable? |

They never build the layout like that. It was a mockup. That background is in the engine.sga file, but I see no reason why you'd use it - it looks odd if you turn models upside down
(and you can also see area's where someone has brushed the texture with a tool, oddly). |

The overall layout feels more like Homeworld 2. It does look cool, but I bet people wouldn't think it superior if the actual painter was more transparent, like that concept one. I often wonder if it would be possible to implement a zoom function in DoW painter because the sides are way too close together for my liking. It seems a bit, no, a lot, confined.

You wouldn't be able to get it perfectly identical, but if you really wanted then you could make the interface fairly close to the mock up. You'd just need to change the UI TGAs and possibly tweak the .screen file in a couple of places

We've known for ages about the pattern in the .teamcolour file, it just doesn't do anything. Change it all you like and it won't make a difference. You can have things other than _default for RTX files though, as Telboy found when he did his Lamenters. They can basically be [unit_name]_[anything].rtx and as long as you correctly reference the [anything] in the campaign file, it'll work.
Also, I doubt the FC naming will be implementable without Relic working on it. If you can choose it in the Army Painter, it'd probably be stored in the .teamcolour file, and since it isn't in the .teamcolour file then it probably isn't implemented anywhere. |
