Most likely. Seeing as how their weapons look like they were pieces of metal riveted or welded together in any fashion possible and tend to break down or blow up in your face. They have been also known to refurbish captured or abandoned Imperial hardware like Leman Russes and Rhino transports to be more "Orky" and use them in future battles.

Many good items have been brought to light here, please allow me to collect them all and elaborate on them just a bit.
The orkoid (and when i say orkoid, i use it as an umbrella term to denote orks, grots, squigs, etc) lifecycle is spore then fungus/mushroom then orkoid, as we all know. Before an orkoid is fully grown and released into the unsuspecting world, there is a little-understood process by which the surrounding orkoid population is tallied and afterwards the appropriate orkoid is grown and, for lack of a better term, hatched. If there are orkoids at all, mostly squigs and grots are hatched until a large enough population of those exists to support some actual orks, at which point the big green buggers start popping out of the ground. The purpose of this system appears to be that it ensures a suitable infrastructure is in place before any orks are around. Grots are hatched who herd the squigs, harvest the fungus and, assumedly, hammer together some crude shelters and whatnot. Presumedly, the first batch of orks to pop up will contain a certain amount of Oddboyz, orks who show some sort of proclivity for activities that fall outside the normal orkish range of "stomp and shoot." Oddboyz, as it has been explained, are invaluable to orkish society for all sorts of reasons, they count the teef, they brew da good stuff and they fix up da boyz gubbins, amongst other things. There are a great variety of Oddboyz out there, but we don't hear much about them because most of them don't really factor into combat for the most part. An ork who's really good at counting is just about identical in a fight to an ork who is not, sadly enough. Meks and docs are given stats because the devs found ways to make them play differently on the TT than normal orks. It can be safely assumed that amongst those Oddboyz are orks who really get a kick out of making holes in the ground and seeing what they can dig up, others who enjoy mixing stuff together to see what makes the loudest bang and yet others who like getting "jus' da right rocks" and turning them into big choppas and other bits of metal that the meks will buy for teef. These desires and the skills required to fulfill them are all imprinted somehow into the mind of the ork in question, so a digga boy will know, without wondering how he knows, what kinds of places are good for digging up good stuff, a mixa boy will instinctively know how to concoct gunpowder and a hamma boy just knows how to turn iron ore into steel (low grade steel, i'm sure, but steel none the less). Thus it is that orkish society continues to function, much to the chagrin of respectable humans and xenos everywhere and to the never-ending delight of those who just love a good punch up and a brew afterwards. So orks get their weapons from meks who get raw materials from a variety of sources, including, on those worlds where such is available, left over scrap and junk. I hope that helped answer your question somewhat. |

When it comes to Ork weapons, I'd like to point out something in the codex. From an Imperial report, it was found that the weapons made by orks can't be used by others. Not only are they unoperational, their construction doesn't seem to make sense either. Apparently, only orks can operate them because they 'believe' that they should work. Much like red paint jobs on vehicles, they go faster because the orks think they can due to the red paint.

But also numerous of cases where they haven't been. They even stated that it should not physically work. In the hands of a human it hasn't. But it worked fine when the Ork had it.
And in one particular case, worked fine when they gave it back to an Ork. |

Well, Ork weapons work around orks usually. And ork weapons are really always unique, so of course some will actually work.
Heh...that would be funny to see... "Well, everything appears to be in order...this gun doesn't work though! You can have it back." "Thanks... DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA" *splat* |

Not neccessarily. The Orks would have to be looking right at you for that to work. What happens if you are trying to ambush? Or just happen to not be being looked at? If they aren't looking at you, they don't see you with it. THerefore they don't know that gun "should" be working. |
